Week 28 : Intentional Blur

Let’s talk intentional BLUR!!

There are so many ways to get blur.

Most of us - have heard of Freelensing and Panning. There's also zooming while shooting and Slow shutter speed. These are great ways to achieve that lovely blur. You can combine some techniques and get really creative like slow shutter and zoom or you can pan and jiggle your camera on a still subject to create a painting look.

Here’s a couple of tips if your going to try freelensing.

I find it easier to see what I’m doing if I am on Live View.

I use very small barely imperceptible movements when moving my lens. A little movment can make big changes.

Don’t worry too much about getting a slice of focus. Everyone talks about achieving that slice of focus. Finding that slice can take time and a lot practice. I think it’s important to remember that there is beauty in the blur!

My tip for panning and zoom

Start at 1/20 second then adjust according to your subject. I like to slow it way down for still subjects. Experiment, and see what you get.

Here's what intentional blur can give you… the freedom to create non traditional images. Fuel your creativity and try something new!

Our group outdid themselves this week. I cannot wait to show you the absolutely crazy talent we've got over at Our 52 Group...
